I was blown with surprise when i just dropped in the Project Run and Play website this very month and its the right time I could join the linky party. And what's more, any one can take part, which makes me eligible!
I would never think of making Sarah a bubble dress for her nickname is bubble. But then at PRP, we are free to make any outfit based on Alida's Bubble dress tutorial.
I dug in my stash of bought, donated and left over fabrics but then I chose to recycle. I have a bag of tees and shirts my Aunt contributed to quench my thirst of recycling and its a joy to see three shirts used up in a single project...yay!
Sarah is a little chunky so I did not want a puffy look. A bubble pinafore and a polo shirt was what I came up with.
I chose the bottom part of the white tee to line the skirt. Cut off a bit from it's width and length and sewed the red and white hems together. Since main fabric is wider than lining, I pulled the lining to stretch as I would do with elastic. At the top, I gathered main fabric to fit the lining. Oh! And the writing on the tee? Ahem..The back of the bodice is wrong side of the front of tee, but I had to accommodate a small image on the skirt part. A little peepal tree wouldn't hurt, right?
Bodice is lined with solid red cotton, a little inverted box pleat at the front neckline and a gather at back.
I'm no game at boys' attire so the shirt is just altered to fit her. Three fourth sleeves are more girly so I went for it. Shoulder had to be reduced by more than an inch, width and length of the shirt too.
Even the most co-operative child will give up on a photo shoot when we still wonder did I click ONE good snap !
So that was my first ever detailed article on something I've made. Thanks to PRAP team for the motivation. I can't wait to know the next month's theme.

A shirt and two tees, I'm all set.
You don't hate a tee for what it says, do you?

I love your bubble top layered over the button up--and how great that you were able to use up old shirts! I love the box pleat and I think the flower on the back is cute ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by, Beth!
